Elio Altare enjoys himself. With a project called Campogrande, in one of the most incredible regions of the whole peninsula, where it is very hard to work the vineyards: the Cinque Terre. No Vermentino, only Bosco and Albarola, “less important” vines. A few bottles, because more is impossibile there. An IGT vinified like a Burgundy and, you don’t have to mention it, with fresh perfume of white flowers and a remarkable minerality.
But also, in order to “learn” and to “experiment”, a barrique, “forgotten” for fourteen months (sorry for the quotes, but they enhance the disarming, enthusiastic sobriety of the winemaker). A thrilling, voluminous white wine emerges, supported by alcohol which is miraculously tempered by acidity, prolongated by sapidity (from the sea?), profound, with perfumes of citrus fruits, complex, splendid. Absolutely not “less important grapes”.
